Resolutions

i.    Membership to S.A.S shall never exceed 24

ii.   Five criteria for membership:

  • A love of steak
  • A love of merriment
  • An appreciation of quality
  • An enjoyment of sport
  • An interesting character, through profession or hobby

iii.  Until reaching capacity, up to 2 new candidates may be granted membership at any one meeting

Notes:

  • In the eventuality that a current member(s) resign, then more than 2 new members may be granted membership at any one meeting, providing that the total number of new members does not exceed the number of departing members

iv.   Upon reaching capacity, membership will be granted on a one-in one-out basis

v.    Introduction of new members:

  1. Prospective members should be introduced to the sitting President and Chairman at any stage in the 3 months following the last meeting.
  2. Prospective members may only be introduced by an existing member of S.A.S.
  3. On putting forward a new candidate, the introducer should communicate why they feel the prospective member would be a valuable addition to the society and ensure they meet the agreed criteria.
  4. In the 3 months preceding the subsequent meeting, prospective candidates will be presented by the Chairman and ratified by all members by means of electronic vote.
  5. Members will be added to waiting list and entry will be permitted in due course
  6. New members must repeat the oath on accession
  7. Candidates will not be ratified as full members of the SAS until they have attended their first SAS dinner and satisfied existing members that they are indeed a “fit and proper person” worthy of membership to the society.

 

Notes:

  • prospective members are added to the waiting list in chronological order, under no circumstance will this order change
  • It is agreed that that the introduction of new members will put existing members at risk of expulsion if their “Candidate” is considered to be unsatisfactory or is someone who appears to be inconsistent with the aims and ethos of “SAS”. Any member who proposes an unsuitable candidate will be made to eat fish and drink white wine at the next dinner. The other members of SAS will decide the fate of that member at that time.
  • Candidates will have to give a presentation at their first SAS dinner to satisfy the requirements set out at para. (v.7) above.
  • In the eventuality that a current member resigns, then new members may be introduced at any time up to the next meeting, either directly by the Chairman and Sitting President or through introduction by any member. In such circumstance prospective members will not require to be ratified by means on electronic vote, however will need to be ratified all existing members in accordance with resolution v.7

 

vi.   Commencing in 2011, the S.A.S will meet formally twice annually (at a location agreed by the sitting President and Chairman and communicated in due course to all members)

  • Summer meeting (September)
  • Winter meeting (February)

Notes:

  • there may be other informal gatherings in between these dates, though attendance to these will be on an at-will basis
  • furthermore there will be at least one sporting gathering per annum, though likewise attendance is not enforced
  • If a suitable date is not found in either of the said months, then the nearest date appropriate to all members will be chosen. 

vii.  All members should adhere to any rules & orders agreed and ratified by all members. Failure to adhere to rules set agreed will result in expulsion from the society, unless special circumstances are granted

viii.  New rules & orders may be proposed by any sitting member at any stage except the two weeks prior to the next meeting. Newly proposed rules & orders will be presented to all members by the sitting President during the subsequent meeting. New rules & orders will need to be ratified by all members to be passed

Notes:

  • discussion and negotiations on proposed rules & orders may occur in the presence of all members during each meeting
  • It is emphasized that the one of the aims for the proposal of new rules is to promote fun at

ix.   All members will dutifully complete the responsibilities granted to them when performing one of the roles set out by the society
